Before you apply for the EdD programme, you should make contact with a potential supervisor: Writing for publication Many students seek to publish their doctoral work, either during or after their studies. At our open days you will have the chance to find out more about Graduate Taught and Graduate Research programmes and talk to academic staff. The regulations governing the viva and its outcome vary slightly depending on the start date of the student. Interruption of study It may sometimes be necessary for students to interrupt their studies. Students should also discuss their training needs with their supervisors within their first few tutorials, and revisit this regularly for example, as part of the annual review of progress. Applicants should also provide a 2,word statement summarising the research they would like to conduct if admitted to the EdD programme, stating how they feel the programme would enhance their professional development.

Courses provided centrally by UCL can be booked through the Log, and will be recorded within the system automatically. EdD students often receive funding partial or fully from their employers. Training for doctoral students who teach or facilitate sessions UCL runs a dedicated training programme, called Arena One , for postgraduates who teach usually called PGTAs. The thesis, about 45, words in length, will make a distinct contribution to the knowledge in the field of study and afford evidence of originality and a capacity for autonomous research. For all IOE doctoral examinations, an independent chair will be appointed.

UCL Home Institute of Education Courses Graduate Research Education EdD Education EdD The EdD is a research degree for experienced professionals from education and related fields who would like to extend their professional understanding and develop skills in research, evaluation and high-level reflection on practice.

Research undertaken on the EdD programme can be based in any area in education, subject to the applicant being able to identify a suitable research supervisor within UCL Institute of Education IOE. More information about the choice is provided on a separate page. The total time to complete depends on the time taken to complete the thesis. Doctoral extension scheme Students on a Tier IV visa can apply to this scheme in order to gain an additional 12 months of Tier 4 immigration permission in which to gain experience in their specific field or seek skilled work.
